🌿 Fresh From the Field Notes: What’s New with Woman Scouts
Hi Scout! We Just Hit 200 Members—Let’s Celebrate 🎉
We’re officially over 200 members, and we’re feeling wildly grateful. Whether you’ve come to an event, invited a friend, or are just quietly cheering us on…you’re helping build something rooted, creative, and special. Thank you for being here!
✨ Last Week’s Highlights
🖋 Zentangle at Essex Studios - Cincinnati Book Arts Society
Inside the eclectic halls of Essex Studios, the Cincinnati Book Arts Society welcomed us for an afternoon of meditative drawing. We each created beautiful abstract patterns while learning to slow down and trust the process. Huge thanks to CBAS for their creative guidance and studio space.
🌼 Calendula Workshop at Melrose Medicinal Garden - Ocotillo Herbals
Under the sun in Walnut Hills, Ocotillo Herbals led a hands-on workshop in the Melrose Medicinal Garden (a hidden hillside space devoted to healing plants and community!) We picked calendula, talked plant traditions, and left with both herbal goodies and newfound knowledge.
💛 Scout Shout-Out:
A special thank-you to Patricia, honorary Mom Scout. She’s been so supportive of this idea and attends as many as she can! Say hi to her next time you come to an event! (Hi mom!)
🎒 What’s Next: Block Printing This Wednesday!
Join us for a creative night out at The Work+Shop in Wyoming, OH! This beginner-friendly Lino Block Printing class is the perfect intro to a hands-on art form that’s both accessible and wildly satisfying. You’ll leave with your own hand-carved prints—and probably a new favorite hobby. BYOB welcome!

Our next read is a love letter to the natural world written by a botanist who believes plants are some of our wisest teachers. It’s about reciprocity, ritual, and remembering what it means to belong to the land.
We’ll reveal the title in Friday’s newsletter… but here’s a hint:
🌾 It’s named after a sacred plant, braided by hand and offered with gratitude.

🌱 Did You Know?
• 🌸 Cincinnati is home to the second-oldest urban botanical garden in the U.S.
The Civic Garden Center, founded in 1942, was created to teach victory gardening during WWII and now supports pollinator habitats and community gardens all over the city.
• 🪴 There’s a seed library in Dayton.
You can “check out” heirloom seeds from Dayton Metro Library, grow them, and return saved seeds at the end of the season…just like books.
